1982 - 2008 Son of Zippo Pat Bars that will be greatly missed here at the Hat Ranch. At twenty-six Zip still had his little bunch of mares and has five 2008 babies to his credit. "Zip" had a limited show career but easily earned his ROM in Western Pleasure and even stood Grand at halter. Along with his abilty to travel beautifully, Zip was a natural when it came time to cut a cow. Unfortunately he came along when the pleasure horse industry outweighed the cutters and he was never allowed to show his real talent at an AQHA show. But, there were many cowboys who were greatly surprised when "the pretty little show horse" dropped his head and held a wild cow when we were doing ranch work! | ![]()
| Only three of Zip's colts have gone to the AQHA show
ring but they have stood him well. One, Zip For Glow,
was the AQHA High Point Western Riding Stallion for
1994. Another, Zip For Gain was an AQHYA Youth AQHA
Champion, AQYHA Register of Merit. The only other colt
shown was Zips Sassy Miss who earned 2.5 open halter
points.
Zips major contibution to Hat Ranch Quarter Horses has been as the sire of broodmares. Seems like we have found exactly the cross we were looking for when we crossed his daughters on Scotches Showtime.
